Connecting OpenClaw (Claw Bot) to WhatsApp uses a QR code, and it is the step people get stuck on most. If your QR won’t scan or the session drops, work through these causes.
1. The QR code expired
2. The gateway isn’t running
The QR only works while the OpenClaw gateway is live. Make sure the service is running and reachable before you scan.
3. Session drops after a restart
If two services both try to start OpenClaw, they fight over the connection and WhatsApp drops the link. Run a single background service, not two.
4. Wrong number / linked-devices full
Use a number that isn’t already at its linked-device limit, and check WhatsApp → Linked Devices on your phone.
5. Network or firewall blocks it
A restrictive server firewall can block the pairing. Make sure outbound connections are allowed.
